What Does True Health Look Like?

What Does True Health Look Like?

Here are some ideals we see in our culture and society today:

1.  A "healthy" BMI (Body Mass Index or an acceptable percentage of body fat based on your height and weight)

2.  Being able to run or exercise for long period of time

3. Lifting weights and having good muscle definition

4.  Not having a heart condition, diabetes, cancer, or other life imposing disease

5.  Having good skin tone and hair - looking nice!

6.  Keeping up with vaccinations (including the "flu shot")

Our society also places great importance on Health Insurance, Medical Tests and Screenings, and regular Doctors appointments.

While these things can be important, they should not be the foundation of our security and sense of well-being.

Rather than thinking in terms of just the physical, or in terms of "what can our healthcare system do to keep us healthy", let's look at health from a more Holistic perspective.

Dr. Randolph Stone (the founder of Polarity Therapy) has a wonderful definition for Health:
"Health is not merely of the body.  It is the natural expression of the body, mind and soul when they are in rhythm with the One Life.  True Health is the harmony of life within us, consisting of peace of mind, happiness and well-being.  It is not merely a question of physical fitness, but is rather a result of the soul finding free expression through the mind and body of that individual.  Such a person radiates peace and happiness and everyone in his presence automatically feels happy and contented."
