Benefits of Basil with Pasta Dish Recipe

Herbs have been used as medicine since the beginning of time.

They contain active constituents that have a medicinal effect on the body.

Two of the main constituents found in Basil are flavonoids and volatile oils.

The flavonoids provide protection at the cellular level while the volatile oils provide protection against unwanted bacterial growth.

You have many choices of Basil varieties to choose from including Sweet, Greek, Thai, Purple, Lemon, Lime, Globe, Cinnamon, and Holy.  All of these varieties will give you similar benefits.  Experiment and see which is your favorite!!  Personally, I LOVE Greek Basil.

While there are several ways to add Basil to your diet (teas, supplements, dried, fresh, etc.), it is always best to use fresh basil to get the best taste and benefits.

Here is a quick and easy recipe you can try that includes this wonderful herb:

     2 Tablespoons Butter
     1 cup uncooked orzo pasta*
     14.5 ounces of chicken broth
     1/2 cup shaved Parmesan cheese
