"Eating Raw" - What Does It Mean?

With the goal of being as healthy as possible, many people are changing the way they eat.

We know that (in general) Vegetarians do not eat meat, fish, and poultry.

Vegans (in general) exclude all foods of animal origin, such as meat, fish, dairy, and eggs.  They eat plant products only, and some do not use products that are derived from animals, such as leather or wool.

So while these guidelines sound healthy, it is still possible to be unhealthy and be a Vegetarian or a Vegan.  For instance, a Vegetarian can eat ice cream and chips all day, and a Vegan can eat processed foods or french fries, etc. and still miss the goal of being healthy.

What is the key to a healthy diet?  Raw fruits, vegetables, seeds, and sprouts.

What determines that a food is "raw"?  Either eating it uncooked, or lightly cooked below 115 degrees.

When foods are cooked at higher temperatures, many vitamins, nutrients, and enzymes are destroyed.

Some of the benefits of eating raw are:

  • More energy, vitality, and health
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Helps keep the digestive system/colon clean
  • Natural way to nourish the body
  • Get the enzymes your body needs
  • Eliminates toxins
  • Creates an alkaline environment in your body
While it may not be realistic to eat entirely raw, a good ratio to follow is 80% raw and 20% healthy, cooked foods.

This doesn't mean we have to sit and eat apples and celery all day - there are thousands of ideas and recipes online.  You can create beautiful and great tasting meals for yourself and your family if you just take some time to look up the information.
