What is "Oil Pulling"? (Ancient Detox Method)
The practice of "Oil Pulling" originated in the Ayurvedic Medicine System thousands of years ago.
Today, this knowledge is resurfacing and many are benefiting from this ancient self-treatment.
Simple, effective, and inexpensive - it is worth trying!
So what exactly is "Oil Pulling"? It is simply swishing, sucking, or "pulling" oil around in your mouth. It is more than "rinsing" - you are actively pushing and pulling the oil through your teeth and all around your mouth. Most experts agree that doing this for 20 minutes first thing in the morning is best.
What oil should we use? Coconut oil is wonderful - it has the added benefit of whitening your teeth. Grapeseed, Sesame, and Sunflower oils are beneficial as well.
What is the purpose? You can receive many benefits from oil pulling. The first obvious results appear with your mouth and teeth. Any gum issues (gingivitis, etc), cavities, weak teeth/decay, bad breath, plaque, and bacteria/infection can be improved.
Beyond this, the oil is also pulling toxins out of your bloodstream and the lymphatics of your mouth as it is circulated around.
This is an extremely beneficial detoxification method!
When you detox, you will experience benefits in many areas: skin improvement, increase of energy, decrease of headaches, balancing of hormones, immune system boost, improvement of arthritis, asthma, liver and stomach conditions, and more.
Here are a few tips:
1. Use a high quality, unprocessed oil (1-2 teaspoons)
2. Oil pull first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything
3. If 20 minutes seems difficult, start with a few minutes a day and work your way up to the 20 minutes
4. NEVER swallow the oil! You are gathering toxins as you are pulling, and you do not want to swallow and put the toxins back into your body
5. NEVER spit the oil into your sink. The coconut oil will harden and end up clogging your pipes after a while. Always spit in a bag or trash can
6. If you don't have any "extra" time to fit oil pulling in, you can oil pull while you're in the shower or doing another activity that is already in your morning routine
7. For added benefits, you can add a drop or two of your favorite Essential Oil. Clove is wonderful for mouth issues, Lemon is detoxifying, OnGuard or Thieves are great immune boosting blends
