Dealing with Anxiety? Try This Simple Exercise

Do you ever feel a loss of connection, ungrounded, or maybe like you don't belong? 
Do you deal with panic attacks, anxiety or fear?   You could be experiencing an out of balance Root Chakra which corresponds with the Earth Element.

You are here on this Earth to be connected with it and to walk and function as part of this planet.
Energetically your connection comes through your Root Chakra.

When this Chakra is in balance, you feel grounded, stable, secure, satisfied with life, practical, organized, and have abundant energy.

When this Chakra is out of balance, you can have anxiety, fear, worry, become stuck in patterns, be hypervigilant, have poor boundaries, deal with paranoia, and become defensive.

How many people do you know who deal with panic attacks and/or are on anti-anxiety medications?
The National Institute of Mental Health reports that approximately 40 million adults in the United States between the ages of 18-54 deal with an anxiety disorder.

While I know that one simple exercise may not cure your anxiety, doing this visualization can help you start to reconnect with the Earth and help to restore your strength, safety, and security.

For optimal effect, this exercise can be done outside standing on the earth (not cement or blacktop), barefooted and actually feeling a physical connection with the earth.  If you cannot go outside, try to at least be in bare feet and visualize that you are standing on solid ground.

1.  Standing upright with your feet flat on the ground (or floor), close your eyes and allow your breathing to become quieted and regular.
2.  Imagine that you are connected with the earth and feel the soles of your feet making full contact with the earth.
3.  As you inhale, visualize the breath coming in from the top of your head, going through your body, and imagine exhaling that breath out through the bottom of your feet creating an energetic connection.  Do this for several to many breaths.
4.  As you are aware of your connection to earth, start to visualize roots growing out from the soles of your feet and imagine these roots growing deeper and deeper into the earth.
5.  Visualize the roots not only growing deeper, but also spreading out wider until you have a complete and solid connection with the earth.
6.  Stay in this moment for several minutes until your anxiety is gone and you feel a peaceful connection and sense of belonging.
