Herbal Tinctures - What Are They?
What are Tinctures and
How Do You Use Them?
Tinctures are liquid extracts made from herbs that you take orally (by mouth).
Herbs are "soaked" for 30 or more days to extract their medicinal properties and then the liquid is strained out of the plant material to be used as medicine.
Tinctures are usually extracted in alcohol (Vodka is the most common medium). This serves as a potent solvent and an effective preservative. Alcohol based tinctures have a virtually unlimited shelf life if stored in a cool, dark location.
Dosage is very small (1-20 drops).
Tinctures are easy and convenient to use.
They usually come in a glass bottle with a dropper included. You can put the recommended drops under your tongue, put the drops in a medicine cup and dilute with water to take as a "dose of medicine", or add the drops to some honey, juice, or tea, and take it that way.
Very simple, easy to use, and easy to travel with.
Some examples of common tinctures are:
Liver Cleanse
Digestion Help
Pain Relief
Anti-Anxiety Blend
Sleep Helper
