The Benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil

As we continue our discussion on receiving side benefits from natural remedies (vs. side effects from synthetic medications*), we will look at Vetiver today.

This is a plant and Essential Oil that we may not be as familiar with as other oils, so first we will define what Vetiver is!

Vetiver is a grass from the Poaceae family which also includes Lemongrass and Citronella.  It is a fast growing perennial that has a large interlinked root system and can survive up to 50 years.

Vetiver Essential Oil is derived from the root of the plant.

Vetiver has been used in India for thousands of years and was called the "oil of tranquility".

Vetiver is widely used in perfumes and fragrances around the world today.

So what are some benefits of Vetiver Essential Oil?

  • It is a calming oil that can be used to help you stay asleep (in conjunction with Lavender Essential Oil which will help you fall asleep)
  • Improves ADHD
  • Heals scars
  • Home remedy for burn relief
  • Soothes anxiety and nervousness
  • Treats heat strokes
  • Helps with joint disorders
  • Can increase libido
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Prevents bacterial infections
  • It is calming and stabilizing
  • (and many others)
Once again we see that if we are using Vetiver Essential Oil for one particular issue (maybe to heal a scar), we can receive the other benefits listed such as reducing inflammation, soothing anxiety and nervousness, and preventing infections.

This is another wonderful example of a natural remedy giving us great side benefits instead of the unwanted side effects we typically get with a pharmaceutical.
