Air Element (Qualities)

 



The Element of Air governs our Love, Joy, and Inner Peace.  It brings lightness, quickness, agility, and movement.  Since it corresponds to our Heart Chakra, it is easy to see how matters of the heart (connection and love) are involved as well as the movement aspect of circulation and respiration.

It encompasses our right "To Love".

When balanced, we are compassionate, understanding, fair minded, honest, loving of self and others, and have an inner peace.

When out of balance, depression can set in, as well as loneliness, jealousy, greed, suspicion, a lack of compassion, and feeling unloved.  We can become antisocial, or develop codependency tendencies as well as being overly empathetic.  This imbalance is also what causes people to stay in abusive relationships.

Physically, the Air Element corresponds to the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, immune system, thymus gland, integumentary system (skin), parasympathetic nervous system, thorax, thoracic spine, arms, wrists, hands, kidneys & ureters, lower legs, and ankles.

If you feel like your Air Element may be out of balance, there are great ways to bring it back into balance including:


  • Halotherapy (Salt Therapy)
  • Breathing exercises
  • Take a holiday/vacation or some time off if you feel like you are in a rut and need to get "unstuck" (bring movement back into your life!)
  • Take a dance class (or just dance like no one is watching :-))
  • Go outside on a windy day and let the air "clear the cobwebs" in your mind
  • Find ways to share your love: taking care of a pet, volunteering in a nursing home, etc
  • Eat fruits, nuts, and seeds
