Homemade (and Simple!) Body Powder

One way to stay healthy that we've discussed before is to get rid of as many toxins in our homes as possible.

Most of the products we use every day (soap, shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, laundry detergent, cleaning products, etc) contain dozens of toxins that can have serious detrimental effects on our health.

There are many simple recipes we can follow to make our own homemade products that are wonderful to use, work great, smell great, and can give us peace of mind since we know exactly what ingredients have gone into the product.

Here is a great recipe for Body Powder that is simple, inexpensive, and can be tailored to your own personal preferences (experiment with the measurements and ingredients to find a blend you like the most!):


  • In a medium sized bowl, add the following ingredients:
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda (optional)
  • 15 or less drops Essential Oils (any combination you like such as Lavender, Geranium, Chamomile, Patchouli, Peppermint (don't forget Peppermint has a cooling/tingling effect, so may not be appropriate for all body areas)
  • Mix all ingredients together with a whisk 
  • Transfer to a sealable container 
  • This powder can be sprinkled on or with a powder puff
